Bio-mechanical Assessment

Biomechanical Assessment & Gait Analysis

A biomechanical assessment is a comprehensive examination of how your lower limbs work. All joints and structures of the lower limb will be tested for range of movement and quality of motion, checking for abnormalities and possible causes of pain in the foot, ankle, knee and back.

In order to determine any biomechanical issues, your assessment will include:

  • A full history of your symptoms
  • Assessment of the relevant joints
  • Posture analysis
  • Checking for any muscle weakness or tightness related to your complaint
  • Foot pressure analysis.

Following this, a treatment programme will be recommended for your unique needs.

Treatment:

Some conditions require structural correction in the form of orthoses, as well as a series of exercises to stretch and strengthen the foot. Your podiatrist will explain your condition in full, and will discuss the appropriate treatments available.

One effective solution is custom-made orthoses, which realign the lower limb, giving better support and comfort. Absolute Footcare uses industry-leading technology, SIDAS™, to develop and manufacture high performance bespoke insoles. Using state-of-the-art equipment your podiatrist will manufacture your orthoses during your appointment, tailoring them to fit any footwear you require.  Off-the-shelf insoles are also a popular option.
